A Brief Overview of The Royal Family’s Vast Estates

Thousands of homes are purchased and sold annually all around the world. But none of them can compare to the lavish homes that the British royal family has!

The UK royal family has named Buckingham and Kensington Palaces “home” for many years. However, did you realize that they also have other castles under their aegis? Given their heritage, it should come as no surprise that the family owns several additional estates and castles in the UK and other countries.

So let’s take this opportunity to explore some of the most exquisite royal properties owned by different royal members. Who knows, you just might find the inspiration for your next property deal!

Queen Elizabeth II

The queen resides in several locations during the year because she is the Queen of the United Kingdom and fifteen other Commonwealth nations (what can we say, with great authority comes superior living alternatives, *wink*).

The Queen used to remain at Buckingham Palace, which has about 775 apartments, prior to the death of her husband, Prince Philip (the Duke of Edinburgh). She briefly resided at Windsor Castle during the epidemic; she typically travels there on the weekends or during the Easter break. The building contains more than 1,000 rooms, so it can accommodate as many visitors and family members as you can imagine! It continues to be one of the biggest castles in the world.

The Queen chooses to spend her summers in Scotland’s Balmoral Castle, which has over 150 structures spread across 50,000 acres of land. She enjoys staying in the Palace of Holyroodhouse to begin the Royal Week before moving to the Balmoral Castle. The Queen and other members of the royal family relocate to Norfolk’s Sandringham Estate as Christmas approaches. Finally, she makes it a point to stay a few days in Hillsborough Castle whenever she is in New Ireland (now that’s what you call actual royalty, eh?).

Princess Camilla and Prince Charles

Like mother, like son is defined by Prince Charles. He has resided in Clarence House in London since his 2005 wedding to Camilla Parker Bowles, but he also owns the Highgrove House in Gloucestershire. The Duke of Wales owns a 53,000-acre house there called Birkhall, where he spends most of his vacations. In addition, he is the proud owner of Tamarisk House in the Isles of Scilly and a country house near Llwynywermod.

Prince William and Duchess Kate

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have lived at Kensington Palace Apartment 1A since they were married in 2011 and have three children together. Their four-story apartment reportedly includes 20 rooms. The Queen gave the newlyweds Anmer Hall, a ten-bedroom country house, as a wedding gift. It is located on the Sandringham Estate.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

Prior to the birth of their first child, Archie Mountbatten, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry lived in the Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace after getting engaged in 2017. They then relocated to the Frogmore Cottage and remained there till the beginning of 2020. They went to the US shortly after purchasing a $14.7 million mansion in Montecito, California.
